Indian Media:an entertainment Industry

                 Whoever controls the media

                            controls the mind.

Media is a weapon, if used wisely can be instrumental in changing the course of a country. Media is one of  the most powerful  entity on earth, they have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, because they control the minds of the masses. It’s the duty of media and journalism to go places where civilians don’t and report unbiased news to the public, they have the duty to question the government’s policies and convey correct information to the people of the country. As far as Indian media is concerned, the media has a lot to investigate and report starting from national issues like unemployment, crumbled economy, poverty, national security, pending justice, poor policing to name a few. In world press freedom index India ranks 142 among 180 nations, which is a sickening fact as media is one of the pillars of our country.

But how often do we come across such news that really do affect the general public?

When was the last time you’ve come across some news that will make you aware of what’s happening in your country and around the world?

During this difficult times when all of the world is battling a pandemic, in which due to our knack of leading the way in everything we do, India tops the charts in Corona virus cases. Our already weakened medical system barely good enough to provide for the 130 crore Indians has fallen to an all time low thanks to this pandemic. Regularly I’ve come across videos from quarantine centres and hospitals of people lying unattended due to lack of medical facilities and simply because Doctors and Nurses are fed up due to never ending number of new cases.

But does Media do its duty to report this and bring it to the government’s notice? Isn’t this the actual reason Media and journalism exist?. But what have we been watching in the news regularly, and what good  it brought to us. Does it matter if  a temple or a mosque was built in Ayodhya?, Yes there’s a historical mythological significance to that place but what's going to be constructed there has absolutely no effect on the lives of the people living elsewhere in India, the only profit from it is that it will bring a huge tourism boost and subsequently more employment to the people there, but unfortunately I’ll still have to study for my degree and entrance examination since God won’t help me clear those, doesn’t matter if a temple was finally built somewhere.

                  "The people will believe,

what media asks them to believe"

This is why unbiased and true journalism is so crucial for us, because specially in India, what Media shows becomes the opinion of the general public. If useful and true information is put through to people and we as  citizens will raise our voice to issues that actually affect us then only there will be some meaning if we call ourselves a democratic nation.

Currently on our news channels  Sushant's death CBI enquiry is the 24/7 primetime debate topic with news channels deducing their own ways as to how Rhea is guilty, some say she’s a gold digger, some falling even lower and bringing black magic angle to their private investigation.

Indian Judicial system says accused until proven guilty is innocent, but our Media, in this also is  divided. She’s a cold blooded murderer for some and one particular journalist says, ”Rhea after an interview cried on my shoulder for an hour, she’s innocent” and the irony is that this journalist belongs to a news channel that’s been against her from day one. Even our journalists don’t stand on something they say but keep hopping on to the other side and back and expect us to idly sit and watch them go on about their black magic bullshit and what do we do? Exactly what they expect us to do.

I consider journalism a noble profession but there’s nothing noble in what’s being reported now, it’s just an entertainment show with a bunch of people quarrelling about a topic we don’t care about. I don’t give a damn what could have been constructed in Ayodhya,  Sushant gets justice this is what we all want , but don’t expect me to believe Rhea controlled Sushant with some wodoo magic, that guy was a science preacher and a Physics Olympiad winner, he deserves better.

Indian media should stop their private investigation led by the loudest Arnab Goswami and let the authorities do their job. If Media instead uncovered the carelessness happening in the hospitals people will be scared to go out if they know what’s happening inside the hospitals, not the ideal way I agree but it will get the job done.

Now it all boils down to you  as to which type of news to watch and what kind of journalism to support

Black magic or genuine issues, choice is yours.
