Could We Really Boycott China?

Nearly a month ago PM of India introduced “ Atmanirbhar Bharat “ campaign , to make India self reliant and nearly a month after this announcement border tension of India with China was at its peak and eventually India lost its 20 soldiers, meanwhile USA was also making allegations on China for spreading Corona virus , due to these three subsequent events there was once again a hike in the sentiments of boycotting Chinese products across India . I said again cause this was not the  first time Indians want to boycott Chinese products , if we look in retrospect there were several waves of boycotting Chinese products , but after sometime the intensity of these sentiment saw a downfall, that is why we couldn’t succeed in boycotting Chinese products , consider recent situation each  one of us chanted boycott China but next day  Redmi Note 9 was out of stock in India(link), hypocrisy at its peak . Anyway let’s see China’s role in world trade .

Nearly in every country you would find Chinese products . China has always been dominating world in trade factor . China is popular for its dirty trade tactics like IP theft , currency manipulation and most famous among all is Dumping . I think you must be aware about  dumping. China export its products in a prices which are lower than normal price in that particular country, which drags local companies out of business and eventually China gains monopoly in that sector. Due to all these reasons U.S declared Trade war with China in 2018 in which U.S got little bit of success, but also incurred loss.

Now coming to India, trade between India and China has always been one sided trade. India import seven times more from China than it exports to it . Thus trade war is not an option cause it will affect India more than China . And it should be acknowledged that India accounts for 2% of China’s total export , so even if we are able to boycott Chinese products then it will not create huge impact on China , but this does not mean that we should not boycott Chinese products cause 2% is small for China ,yes it is but  China accounts 16% of India’s total import this is big figure for India which should be minimize in coming years ,so as to make India more self reliant and less China dependent.

Thus how can we do so , I think persistence is the key here . We are not persistent rather we are extreme chauvinist , when ever tension between India and China arises our head and hearts fill with only sentiment which is “ Boycott China” but as the situation cools down our chauvinism also cools down and we forget about boycott China , so according to me persistence is the only key here after all boycotting Chinese products is very slow process.
