Dreams:- Most mysterious yet ignored part of our day to day life

 What Dreams actually are ?                                                                                                                                                           


                                                                                   Before answering this question let me first tell you that there are two sorts of dreams, one is what we see after falling asleep and other is what we see when our mind is conscious , popularly known as Day Dream. These dreams contains ambitions goals etc. In this article I will be extensively discussing about dreams that we witnessed while sleeping. A dream is a succession of images, ideas, emotions and sensations that usually occur involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep. In simpler terms dreams are basically stories and images that our mind creates while we sleep. Dreams can be frightening, disturbing, pleasing, entertaining, they can scare you or make you feel happy. 


      

Types of Dreams:-   There are two main types of Dream                                                                                                     1)Lucid dream                                                       2) Nightmare                                                                                                                                        

1) Lucid Dreams:- we spend one-third of our lives sleeping and while sleeping we dream. Our brain remains active during sleep, but we do not dream all night long there is a particular phase of sleep mostly where everyone starts to dream and it is known as REM sleep (Rapid Eye Movement), it is characterized by rapid movement of eyes, faster breathing and bodily movement. We generally dream for around two hours daily and each dream last for 20-30 minutes . Dreams can’t be controlled unless they are Lucid, lucid dreams are those in which you are aware that you are dreaming. Lucid dreaming is a state between REM sleep and being awake. Lucid dreamers can influence their dreams by driving story by themselves, but driving dreams is not a cake walk it takes time to get mastery over it. 2)  Nightmare:- Several times you might have come across this term especially in movies. Nightmares are nothing but a bad dream that frightens, disturbs or makes you feel terrified. It is common in both children and adults. In children it happens because of fear  of something. In adults it is a result of stress, trauma, emotional problems, medication or drug use. Remember that nightmares are just Dreams and have nothing to do with your real life, so don’t bother about it too much.                                                                                                                       You might remember some nightmares and they make just five percent of the dreams you witness, almost 95 percent of the dream are forgotten shortly after waking. According to a theory about why dreams are so difficult to remember, the change in the brain that occur during sleep do not support information processing and storage needed for memory formation to take place. If this is how it works , then why we remember some dreams, the answer is you only remember those dreams that awake you from sleep. Think about that dream you remember and try to recall that night in which you had that dream and perhaps you remember that your dream  because you woke up from your sleep possibly because you got scared.                                                                              

 And here comes the most asked question about Dreams, why do we dream?                                                                                                      To be honest, no one exactly knows why do we dream. There are many theories opinions but no one knows for sure. Some says dreams have no purpose while others say we need dreams for our mental health. Famous psychologist Sigmund Freud’s theory of dream suggest that dream represent unconscious desires , thoughts ,wish fulfillment and motivations, he believed that dreams are a way for people to satisfy desires that cannot be satisfied in real world. What do we see in our dreams? If you ask me, I would say, the content in our dreams are probably connected to the thoughts we have in mind before falling asleep. Dreams are the evidence that our mind never sleeps, they(dreams) are like short Virtual reality movie which you have to watch and forget.
